Farm Market Quinoa Salad

Isn't Mitchell's a soup-making company?

You might be surprised to learn we make more than soup!

While soups, stews, chilis and chowders are what we are best known for, we love to dabble in a wide range of convenient, affordable, delicious foods. Since our inception in 2008 we have also created a variety of salad and dessert mixes, and while some are no longer on our menu today, a couple of our grain salads remain available. Handmade just once a year in the spring our Apple Curry Couscous Salad and Farm Market Quinoa Salad mark the start of warm summer weather and BBQ season!

Apple Curry Couscous Salad

Apple Curry Couscous Salad

We love this fresh, crunchy salad that features couscous and mixes apple, celery and cucumber with the warmth of curry. This salad makes a refreshing light lunch or an appetizing side dish at your summer BBQs.

What is couscous?

While often believed to be a grain, couscous is actually a type of tiny, dried pasta made from Durum wheat semolina and water which when tossed creates small round quick-cooking ball-shaped pasta.

  • Durum wheat is commonly used as a pasta flour
  • Semolina is a type of coarse flour milled from… you guessed it…durum wheat and has a nutty, earthy flavour.

Are Mitchell's grain salads easy to make? Are they expensive?

They are SO easy to make! We provide the recipe, instructions, dried ingredients and seasonings. Not only are Mitchell's salad mixes convenient, they are healthy AND affordable. When we compared the cost of our salads vs similar pre-prepared salads at a local deli, we found that Mitchell's salads cost over 30% less per serving!
